About

Welcome to FindTrail.co. If you’re here, chances are you share the same irrepressible pull toward the trails, the peaks, and the landscapes that test who we are.

FindTrail.co wasn’t built from an office chair; it was forged through a lifetime spent in the mountains, thousands of miles on the trail, and over a decade captured frame-by-frame at the very pinnacle of the ultra-running community.

Welcome to FindTrail.co, your go-to resource for discovering and comparing endurance races and fuel options. I’m Martin, a trail runner, ultra-marathon filmmaker, and outdoor enthusiast with a deep passion to inspire people to get outside for adventures and helping others navigate the world of endurance sports.

Why I Started FindTrail.co

FindTrail.co was born out of my desire to make the process of finding the perfect race and fuel as seamless and informed as possible.

After nearly two decades of trail running and over 10 years of capturing the sport through documentaries, I realized how challenging it can be to find accurate and accessible information on endurance races and nutrition. My goal is to create a centralized platform where endurance athletes can explore ultra-marathon races in the UK and fuelling options in one place, making it easier to prepare for their adventures.

I have a background in data-science and I used this over the course of two years spent developing an ultra-marathon race database with over 50 unique data points and an endurance fuel discovery app. I’ve built a reliable tool for endurance athletes. The site is constantly evolving, using real-world data and feedback from athletes. Whether you are looking for a local 30-miler to test the waters or a brutal 200-mile epic to change your life, FindTrail.co is here to help you find your starting line. Or you're there for very specific data and want to compare DNF rates or discovering the most cost-effective energy gels, the information here is backed by thorough research and my personal experience in the field.

A Lifetime in the High Places and Doing The Long Stuff

My relationship with the wild isn't a weekend hobby, it is my life’s baseline. From my earliest days, the mountains have been my home, my playground, and my greatest teacher. Over the decades, that passion evolved from long-distance walking and mountain running and ultra-marathons.

When I’m not working on FindTrail.co or filming ultra-marathon documentaries, I love spending time in nature, exploring wildlife photography, and fast-packing through new landscapes. These passions keep me connected to the outdoors and fuel my dedication to endurance sports.

I know what it feels like to chase a cut-off under a dark sky, to feel the bite of a mountain wind, and to find that deep, quiet rhythm that only comes when you've been moving for twenty hours straight. I understand the geography of the UK’s most unforgiving landscapes because I have traced them with my own feet.

12 Years, 20 Documentaries: Telling the Stories of Endurance

Beyond my own footsteps, my life’s work has been capturing the soul of the ultra-marathon community. For the past 12 years, I have lived behind the lens, photographing the raw, unedited reality of human endurance and producing independent films.

Under my production banner, Kelp and Fern, I have created nearly 20 full-length documentaries capturing the triumphs, heartbreaks, and beautiful absurdities of the ultra-running world.

Through this work, I haven't just watched the sport grow, I've helped document its history. My lens has been there for the moments that define our community:

  • The Elite & The Icons: I’ve supported, crewed, paced, and filmed national teams and world-class athletes pushing the absolute limits of human performance.
  • The Record Breakers: I’ve been on the ground to capture history in the making, documenting legendary athletes smashing historic Fastest Known Times (FKTs).
  • The Community: Equally as important, I have stood at freezing checkpoints to film the newcomers, the people discovering the magic of the ultra-distance for the very first time.

See you out on the trails.
